Seth Dobbs, CTO at Bounteous since 2004, has been named CEO of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), the leader for technical development of the World Wide Web. He will start November 13th.

 

Will Schwitzer has been named CEO at scholarly publishing platform, SilverchairThane Kerner has stepped down as CEO and has been appointed chair of the board of directors.

 

At Scholastic, Kalinda Panholzer, has joined as home base community and product coordinator. Jeff Dang has joined as a trade visual designer. Greyson Corley, has joined as trade marketing assistant, previously they interred at Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group

 

At ReaderLink Distribution Services LLC, Marissa Joiner, has joined as environmental health and safety specialist. 

 

At Orbit, Alyea Canada, has joined as editor, she was formerly an editor at Melville House

 

Michelle Moroses, has joined Sounds True as publicity assistant, she was formerly an intern at Ploughshares Journal.

 

Christopher Beha has resigned as editor of ‘Harper’s Magazine.’

 

At HarperCollins, Stephanie Sano has joined as senior director of finance. She was formerly director of business insights at Penguin Random House . Mike Rohrs VP of U.S. and international finance of HarperCollins, will now oversee the publisher’s U.S. General Books Group and Children’s Books finance team.

Liz Psaltis has joined Morrow Group as marketing director.

 

At Penguin Random House, Andy Hughes, senior VP and director of production and design at Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group, and Altie Karper, managing editor for Pantheon and Schocken and editorial director of Schocken will retire in December.  Vimi Santokhi, is joining as Pantheon/Schocken managing editor. Natalie Hallak has joined Ballantine Bantam Dell as executive editor. She was previously at Atria. Janice Barcena, VP and contracts director at Random House and Crown will retire on December 15th.  Senior designer Maggie Hinders, senior production manager Romeo Enriquez, senior production manager Lorraine Hyland, and senior production manager Quinn O’Neill will retire from Knopf Doubleday on November 1st.

 

Keren Baltzer has been named associate publisher at Zondervan Books. Most recently, she was the VP editorial director of Penguin Random House Convergent and Image Imprints.

 

Rupert Murdoch, at 92 years old,  announced he will step down as chairman of Fox and News Corporation and plans to retire in November. His eldest son, Lachlan Murdoch will be taking over as chair of News Corp. and remain as chief executive and chair at  Fox Corp.

 

At Sourcebooks, Zaina Maswood, has joined as performance marketing associate and Kayleigh George, has joined as their senior marketing director of adult nonfiction.

 

At Simon & Schuster, Christian Borio has joined the distribution client sales team as the associate national accounts manager of Readlink.

 

At Holiday House, Peachtree, and Pixel+Ink, Tiffany Coelho has joined as the marketing coordinator for school and libraries. She was previously office manager for the Children’s Book Council and intern for Seven Speed Press. Saskia Den Boon has joined as marketing assistant for school and libraries. Previously they interned with Beacon Press.

 

Cameron Moore will be joining Candlewick Press as a sales assistant.

 

Susannah Otter joined Hodder & Stoughton in the newly created role as publishing director of non-fiction in January 2024. She will report to non-fiction executive publisher, Kirty Topiwala. She is currently the publishing director at Blink of Bonnier Books UK.

 

Munro Magruder, associate publisher and marketing director at New World Library is retiring after 33 years and will leave the company September 29th. He joined New World Library in 1990 after being VP of sales at Little,Brown from 1984-1989.

At Gaeb & Eggers, América Gutiérrez Espinosa is joining as its new literary agent in Latin America. She previously worked for Penguin Random House Editorial México.

 

At GrayHawk Agency, Jade Fu has been made the agency’s vice president and will lead the company’s Asian author representation as well as handle day-to-day operations. Previously, she was Books From Taiwan project manager and launched the agency’s Korean market and headed nonfiction.

DULY NOTED

NYU Advanced Publishing Institute (NYU API) announced a week-long educational experience designed for mid-to-senior-level book professionals with a focus on management and leadership strategies. The course will take place on New York University’s Greenwich Village Campus from January 8th through January 12th

 

Echo Brown, author and performer died on September 28th after a battle with end-stage renal failure. She was 39 years old and most noted for her gender-fluid YA novels including Black Girl Unlimited: The Remarkable Story of a Teenage Wizard (2020) and The Chosen One: A First Generation Ivy League Odyssey which was published by Little, Brown/Ottaviano last year. 

 

President of the Antiquarian Booksellers’ Association of Canada and general secretary of the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers, Steven Temple, 76, died on September 7.
