Even though I had no journalism experience, I interviewed with a local magazine editor who was impressed by the fact that I taught writing courses to college students. My teaching status was verification of my ability to learn and master new writing styles. Another rockin' post from Men with Pens!

Most bloggers start because they’re looking for a get rich quick scheme, some illusory easy path to fame and fortune. After writing for a couple weeks, they grow frustrated by the slow results and turn to other blogs for advice. You need to let people appreciate the real you rather than hiding behind scripted writing.

But figuring out your writing voice isn’t easy. You’re a parent or a friend or a lover or an employee or a speaker or a blogger or a stranger on the street or a patron at a restaurant or a person jogging in the park. Each facet also carries a particular writing voice. A casual beer? A pina colada? A glass of whisky?

She told me that my writing style had really improved over the past couple of years. It shouldn’t have surprise me at all, really – I’ve been writing six to ten blog posts a week, every week, for at least eighteen months. Something similar has happened with my fiction writing. That surprised me. Any feedback?

I can definitely tell that my writing style has changed over the years (hopefully for the better). We planned a trip and traveled to the Sturgis Rally in 2006, and when it came time to repeat the trip in 2009 I couldn’t remember where all the gas stops were that we made along the way.
