What sort of content should you publish on your blog to help you grow traffic in your first year? There is no right or wrong answer to that question as each blog will be different depending upon the topic, your writing style and the purpose of your blog. The post has been viewed 786,547 times since being published.

When I started blogging about photography back in 2007 there were already hundreds of photography blogs around. While you don’t necessarily need to publish every day, you should try to establish some kind of rhythm with your posting. It’s good for you as a writer because it will get you into the habit of writing regularly.

You press “publish” and bask in retweets, praise, and a flood of comments. When I launched The Smart Marketing Blog in 2007, my posts were eclectic random. One day, a post about bus stop ads, the next day, how to set-up PDFs to open at screen height, and another day, musings on a new social network.

Having a way to write, publish and archive on my computer without needing to be in WordPress is quite handy. I started the blog because I was living in Rome back in 2007. I’m not going to great lengths to build a huge following on social media or an audience. Yeah, it was more than 10 years ago.
