Back in 2006, I wrote newspaper ads in my favorite café. I’ve been doing Empathy Mapping ever since because to me it’s the quickest, easiest way to write sales copy. Four months ago I found an even easier way to use The Empathy Map to get sales copy to practically write itself. Empathy Mapping. Here’s my prompt.

And the next time you have sales copy to write for a client where the standards – money and success – really do apply, ask yourself why customers want them for and for what purpose. Get us to write your sales copy. Specifically, fans of one particular band. Chances are, you can figure out what makes them happy, too.

Forget that – it’s absolutely fine to use contractions in blog posts, pages of web copy, sales copy and so on. They also work well in sales copy and can be handy in subheadings. Next time you read a piece of sales copy, look for how often the imperative is used.

How many times did you close that long sales copy page a few seconds after it popped up unexpectedly while you were searching for something? In 2006, I was mad enough to tell people about my intentions. People are sick of marketers—especially online marketers. Don’t listen to negative comment.

On ProBlogger we have had the job board since 2006. I will say in terms of how much, back in 2006 I revealed that my profit was over a $100,000 a year. I ’ ve started it in 2006. When I first started it back in 2006, I remember the first week or two that I had the job board. It ’ s only gone up from there.
