I started blogging in 2002, 2004 for ProBlogger, of course things have changed. We have about 40 writers, we publish 14 articles a week. It’s not an early bird one because it’s now after the event, but it will go up in the coming days as well. That’s a big change that’s happened in blogging.

We’ve also got Kelly Exeter, who’s brilliant on writing, editing, also design, self-publishing. When I first published it, I didn’t look like this. I published my first post and then, my next feeling was, “How am I going to get people to read the post?” Editorial is really important.

Being human, being real was the number two trend that I’d say and I kind of feel weird saying that because we’ve been teaching on ProBlogger since 2004. You want to build that into your editorial calendar, but on top of that start throwing the random shows as well, the random lives. It’s all about engagement.

Since 2004, when I started ProBlogger, I can see that there have been spikes of activity over those years: spikes in traffic, spikes in engagement and spike to profit as well. I published almost 19,000 articles on my two main blogs, and two of them have been co-authored posts. They’re actually publishing lists.

Today, the web is a much more visual place and I can’t remember the last time I published content without at least one form of visual content in it. I personally can’t remember the last time I published a blog post without at least one image in it or one chat or one page of visual content in it. You can add photos in there.
